The Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners’ Board of Directors is comprised of ten volunteer nurse practitioners from across the state. Our board members are a diverse group whose areas of practice range from hospitalists to private practice owners. All positions are voluntary for Board and committee service. They all share one goal: to help build a strong, united association dedicated to Nurse Practitioners and committed to APRNs practicing to the fullest extent of their education and training.  Our association advocates for better access to healthcare for patients in Mississippi as related to APRN practice.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to our fellow Board member, colleague, and close friend. She was one of the kindest persons anyone could wish to know. Brenda was a model professional and one of the greatest advocates for nurse practitioners.

Brenda began her medical career as an EMT IN 1974.  She earned a diploma in nursing as an LPN 1979 from Northwest Community College in Senatobia, MS.  She furthered her education earning an RN degree from East Arkansas Community College in 1983, a Teaching Certificate for Vocational Education from MSU in 1998, her BSN in 2007 and MSN in 2009 from Delta State University.  Brenda is the owner of Sardis Family Medical Clinic opened in 2018.  She has numerous awards including 1999-2000 HEAD WAE Educator of the Year, Who's Who among American Teachers in 2000, 2002, and 2004.  She was selected as NWCC's Lamplight Faculty Award.  She was currently the newly elected Secretary on the Executive Board of Directors for MS Association of Nurse Practitioners. She has served as a Director at Large and was on several stirring committees for the MANP Board and PAC. She was a member of MS Nurses Association.  She has served as a director, president, vice-president and secretary, and event coordinator for the MS Emergency Medical Technician Association.  She has conducted research in factors influencing retention of registered nurses providing care on medical units in MS Public Health District I Hospitals.  She has served the state of MS for over 30 years in public health and teaching.

She has served on several committees including the MS Board of Nursing Office of Nursing Workforce 2020-2022, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement for MS Dept. of Bureau of EMS, Chair of the Disciplinary Committee for Career Technical Dept. and Curriculum Committee at Northwest MS Community College. Brenda, along with her colleagues in North MS, hosted MANP/Pharma educational dinners for NP in the north MS area for the past 8 years. We thank her for her years of dedication, service to the nursing profession, as well as, our organization.
